Traveling, Day 2
Yesterday's travels were mostly uneventful. One of our sick kids was feeling better, but the other one never quite acted like herself. It is very easy to tell when this kid is genuinely not feeling well. When we don't need to give her ADHD medication in order to get her to sit still and be calm, you know she is sick. Still, although her tummy was not feeling the best, she did not need to utilize a bargain bag yesterday, so that was a blessing. We are praying she perks up soon and can enjoy the rest of the trip.
Our biggest concern for yesterday's travels was the Carr fire near Redding, CA. We weren't sure if we were going to be able to stay on I-5 through Redding (the fastest route) or if we would have to find a different way. Fortunately, the fire was far enough back from the freeway that it wasn't an issue for driving. And honestly, there are so many wildfires burning throughout Oregon and California that it was a smoky drive nonstop from the moment we got in the car. It would be lovely to see some blue sky today but I am not sure that will happen.
Once we arrived in Chico, we settled in at Gabe's aunt and uncle's house. They have an amazing koi pond in their backyard and it is so peaceful back there! They fed us dinner and we got to catch up on each other's lives. We have enjoyed their hospitality.
Please continue praying for our trip. We are hoping that day 3 will be fun and that we can do some sightseeing. Keep tuned...
